子曰:“仁1)远2)乎哉3)?我欲4)仁,斯5)仁至6)矣。”
[Mandarin Chinese Reading] Zǐ yuē: “Rén yuǎn hū zāi?Wǒ yù rén,sī rén zhì yǐ.”
[English Translation] The Master said, “Is Humaneness so far away? If I want Humaneness, then Humaneness comes.”
[Modern Chinese Transltion] 孔子说:“仁德离我们很远吗?我要仁,仁就来了。”
1) 仁: (rén). body, oneself.
2) 远(遠): (yuǎn). to be far, to regard as far.
3) 哉: (zāi). [final particle] indicates exclamation which may be added either to a declarative statement or to a question.
4) 欲: (xíng). to want.
5) 斯: (yù). this, these; then [ substitution of 则(則) ].
6) 至: (zhì). to arrive, to come.
